Uluyagbo Community Accuses Dortmund and Company of Negligence After Destructive
Exclusive: Uluyagbo Community Accuses Dortmund and Company of Negligence After Destructive Rock Blasting.
Residents of the Uluyagbo community, Igbatoro road in Akure are calling for justice and immediate action, alleging that Dortmund and Company Limited has abandoned them after rock blasting activities in both June and August 2025 led to the destruction of several properties. The company has since boycotted peace talks, leaving affected families in a state of uncertainty and distress.
The incident, which occurred on June 18 and August 2nd, 2025, has left a trail of damage. According to a community member, Chief Adetan, the powerful explosions from the company's quarrying operations sent shockwaves through the area, resulting in cracked walls, shattered windows, and damaged roofs. Several families were displaced, and many more are now living in fear for their safety as their homes have been rendered vulnerable to the elements.
Speaking to the Truereporter, one of the badly affected residents, Mr Odimayo who was said to travel but contacted through the phone on Sunday, during our snap-check on the area, said his children are still leaving in the aftermath of the last incident, saying his house is still in a bad state with no sign of remediation yet from the company.
"My children are still traumatized by the sound of the blast," Mr Femi Odimayo, told reporters. "We have been left to fend for ourselves, with no word from the company."
Despite repeated attempts by the community to engage with Dortmund and Company Limited, residents report a complete lack of response. The company has not sent any representatives to take inventory of the damage, nor have they offered any form of compensation or relief to the affected families.
Reportedly, a scheduled peace talk, intended to mediate situations, was boycotted by the company, a move that has been widely condemned by the community as a show of disregard for their well-being.
It will be recalled that the Uluyagbo community has been raising concerns about the company's activities long before this incident. They have pointed to the potential risks to life and property associated with rock blasting in such close proximity to residential areas. The community is now demanding government intervention to ensure that Dortmund and Company Limited is held accountable for their actions and that measures are put in place to prevent a recurrence.
Dortmund and Company Limited is assumed to be a registered entity involved in mining activities in the region. While the company has been a significant player in the local economy, this incident has brought its corporate social responsibility and operational safety standards into question.
It should be noted that at the time of compiling this report, all attempts to reach Dortmund and Company Limited for a comment on these allegations have been unsuccessful.
