Dortmund and Company Limited has declined an invitation from the state government through the ministry of environment to present rock blasting and crushing permits issued to the company in order to determine the environmental impacts of their operations and mitigation efforts in an effort to quench the escalating tension in the Uluyagbo community.


The company was invited to attend a peace meeting aimed at addressing longstanding tensions between the firm and the Uluyagbo community. The meeting, scheduled for , was intended to bring all parties to the table for dialogue and reconciliation.


The state ministry of environment, however, has expressed disappointment over the company’s action. A senior government official described the boycott as a setback to ongoing peace efforts, warning that the refusal to engage could deepen mistrust and prolong the conflict. The official reiterated the government’s commitment to providing a neutral platform for dialogue, urging Dortmund and Company Limited to gaze at the implication of its actions.


From the community’s perspective, leaders of the Uluyagbo community say the company’s absence only reinforces their perception of a lack of accountability. Community representatives have accused the firm of neglecting local concerns over environmental impact, land use disputes, and compensation agreement. “The peace meeting was an opportunity to chart a new course,” one community leader noted, adding that Dortmund’s withdrawal sends “a troubling message that the company is not ready to listen.”


The conflict between Dortmund and Company Limited and the Uluyagbo community has spanned several months, marked by repeated clashes over land ownership, alleged environmental degradation, and unmet corporate social responsibility. Previous attempts at dialogue have often ended without resolution, fueling growing frustrations on both sides.


Observers warn that the latest boycott risks escalating tensions further, as community members continue to press for recognition of their grievances. With the firm's failure to heed the state government invitation, Uluyagbo community attention now turns to whether Dortmund and Company Limited will honor the invitation of the federal ministry of environment who has also beacon.
