Quarry Explosion Rocks Akure Community, Leaving Destruction and Displacement in its Wake.

A powerful explosion originating from a quarry site operated by Dortmund and Company Limited has devastated the Uluyagbo community within Bliss Estate in Akure, destroying numerous properties and rendering many families homeless. The blast, which occurred around noon on Wednesday 19th June, 2025 has intensified an already tense dispute between residents and the company.

According to sources, the incident happened as the company was preparing for rock-blasting operations within the residential area. The explosion has not only caused significant material damage but has also inflicted considerable emotional trauma on the community members, who have long feared for their safety.

This event is the latest in a series of confrontations between the landlords of the Uluyagbo community and Dortmund and Company Limited. For months, residents have publicly voiced their opposition to the establishment of a quarry site so close to their homes, citing grave concerns for their lives and properties. The company's activities have previously led to what residents describe as the "sudden evasion of properties," escalating tensions.

In an effort to prevent a breakdown of law and order, the Uluyagbo family, led by Chief Adelakun, had previously intervened to mediate the dispute. An agreement was reportedly in place to halt quarry activities pending an amicable resolution. The recent explosion suggests this agreement was violated.

The blast serves as a stark confirmation of the residents' long-held fears. As investigations into the precise cause of the explosion begin and relief efforts get underway, the immediate priority remains the welfare of the displaced families. This incident highlights the critical need for stringent safety regulations and for corporate entities to address community concerns before such catastrophic events occur.

Efforts are in place by The Truerepoerter to access the concerned families, Dortmund and Company Limitted and the Uluyagbo family to speak of the resolves of the menace, ascertain the level of destruction and possible solutions.
