The Ondo State Governor, Dr Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa-led has unveiled the Non State Actors of the IMPACT Malaria Project, charging stakeholders to live up to the expectations of both government and the people.
The Governor who spoke through his Special Adviser on Health, Prof Simidele Odimayo, expressed his administration’s commitment to changing the narratives of fighting malaria and other diseases that are rampant in Nigeria.
The Special Adviser announced this in Akure, the state capital while addressing a Press Briefing shortly after the unveiling of the Non State Actors of the IMPACT malaria project.
"Ondo State is happy at the level of successes being recorded in fighting malaria, applauding the Aiyedatiwa’s administration for provision of anti-malaria drugs in all the Primary Health Care Centres and General Hospitals in the state.
The Non State Actors have demonstrated their determination to compliment the efforts of both Ondo State Government and other stakeholders in fighting malaria, Odimayo noted.
The Special Adviser who reiterated the determination of Governor Aiyedatiwa to providing affordable healthcare for the citizenry, advised qualified doctors and nurses to apply for positions in health facilities across the state, assuring them of attractive welfare packages for them in the state.
"Gov. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa-led administration had prioritised the health sector, particularly through the revitalisation of primary healthcare centres across all 203 wards in the state.
However, Prof Odimayo noted that the government had ensured parity in salaries for state-employed health workers and their federal counterparts. "The present administration has not only employed more doctors and nurses but has also enhanced the stability of the sector by ensuring that salaries of health workers are at par with that of the federal government.
“The Governor is actually not resting on his oars as recruitment of more health workers is in progress just as training and re-training is also made a priority."
“The 250-bedded hospital in Akure has been completed while that of Ondo is being worked upon, assuring that the CT Scan at Laje in Ondo would be ready for use before the end of May this year.”
Reacting to concerns raised regarding availability of drugs in hospitals, the Special Adviser affirmed a difference to the previous narratives, stating that the situation has changed completely. "This days, drugs are available across the facilities, as the state tightens efforts to make toll lines available for feedbacks and complaints."
Odimayo who appreciated the initiative of Governor Aiyedatiwa to inaugurate the informal sector of the Health Insurance Scheme, said over 250,000 citizen of the state are benefitting from the scheme while further efforts are being made to bring everyone in the state onboard.
Earlier, the Project Coordinator of IMPACT Malaria Project, Dr. Waheed Afolayan had analysed the various efforts put in place to arrive at the Non State Actors as he assured that they are not only capable but also committed. "The availability of anti-malaria commodities have increased patronage in the health facilities in the state."
The Special Adviser led the Non-State Actors and other stakeholders in the health sector also visited the Ondo State Drug and Health commodities management Agency to commission the supplied drugs to the state by the IHVN team.
