100 DAYS IN OFFICE: Gov Aiyedatiwa Declares Close The A-Week-Long Workshop On Maternal And New Born Mortality Reduction Initiative.
The Executive Governor of Ondo State, His Excellency, Dr Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa has declared close, the workshop on Maternal and New Born Mortality Reduction Innovation and Initiative (MAMII) co-creation in Akure.
Declaring the workshop closed, the Governor ably represented by his esteemed Deputy, Dr Olaide Adelami MNI reassured the state of the implementation of the policies and programmes, stating that his administration will meet the goals of making life better for the good people of Ondo state.
He commended the efforts of all the stakeholders with emphasis on the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, the World Health Organisation and the Traditional Birth Attendants for their effective collaborations with Ondo State Government.
"I want to express my sincere gratitude to the Federal Ministry of Health and other Federal Government Agencies, Development Partners, and all other stakeholders whose contributions made this workshop a remarkable success."
"I have been briefed of the various challenges facing the health sector, I am sure you will agree with the fact that the government alone cannot do it, hence the call for support and collaborations from partners, innovators and impacting investors."
"Thus far, our administration has had enormous achievements in policies implementation targeted at repositioning the health sector in our dear sunshine state."
Highlighting some of the achievements, the Governor said, "at present, 102 primary health care facilities across the State are undergoing facelift, renovations, reconstruction and revitalization, strengthening and expanding the Abiyamo Scheme, BHCPF and ORANGHIS, to essentially check out-of-pocket spending and ensure wider coverage for our citizens."
"Plans are underway to construct 50 to 100-bed facilities in at least five secondary health facilities across the three senatorial districts, and the continuous recruitment of qualified health personnel for our hospitals and health centers as well as the implementation of a new minimum wage."
"However, let me unequivocally inform you that our administration have approved Grade Level 13 for Medical Officers and 10 for Nurses in alignment with national best practices."
This indeed is a testament to our commitment to improving on the welfare of our public servants, the Governor affirmed.
Meanwhile, the Special Adviser to the Ondo State Governor on Health Prof. Michael Simidele Odimayo during the opening remarks described as topnotch, the commitment and zeal of the Gov Aiyedatiwa-led administration in the Health Sector, from the Primary, Secondary and to the Tertiary facilities.
The Team Lead of the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Dr Amina Muhammed who presented the MAMII Work plan to the Governor, congratulated Ondo State for joining states in Nigeria that have cascaded the National Health Innitiative.
She eminently commended the Special Adviser on health to the Governor for his impressive participation in the 5-Day Workshop and the field work, and the conduct of all critical stakeholders in the health sector noting that the field work using some selected facilities in three different LGAs in the state really strengthened the workshop in identifying some of the challenges and possible solutions.
In his goodwill message, the representative of the World Health Organization, Amadi Stephen, while noting that the organisation supports all spheres of health interventions in the state, encouraged the state to submit a proposal on areas of collaboration with WHO.
The representative of MSI Reproductive Choices, Kikelomo Akinmoyewa, in a statement corroborated by the state lead for Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) in Ondo State, Mr Olamide Ayedun, and the Corona Management System, Dr Obiangeli Onwusaka, expressed appreciation to the state leadership for its collaboration to ensure effective family planning services and health practitioners’ skills.
"We will be scaling training for 100 service providers to reduce the maternal mortality rate in the state, continued support for the success of the health sector, its interventions and projects."
